" I chose "Aikido School of Self Defense", obviously due to former training under Shihan Beckham and the art of Aikido itself. Shihan Beckham's dedication to his students and to his art is one of which all martial arts instructors should attempt to achieve. The level of instruction is "Top Notch" in both the youth and adult classes.
The real life approach to training, proper execution of technique, balance, coordination and mental preparedness emphasized in this Dojo is commendable. Also, the diversity in the applications to the classical techniques makes it a truly viable form of self defense without sacrificing it’s inherent tradition.
After all, effective self defense is the reason, or should be the reason, all of us train in the martial arts to begin with. If what we are learning is not effective, we are wasting our money and our time. Also, we are putting ourselves in harm's way should the situation arise that we must defend ourselves, our families or others that are incapable of defending themselves. This Dojo provides those capabilities.
The martial arts Dojo is not the structure in which the school is housed. The Dojo is the art, the instructors and the students . I did not know the students but I knew the art of Aikido and Shihan Beckham.
